The Sea Coast of Europe

[M 43] The Sea Coast of Europe - 1779. Entitled Bowles's European Navigator's Vade-Mecum or New Pocket Chart of the Sea Coast of Europe, and the Straits..." and with an inset map of the eastern Mediterranean and the Holy Land, this 1779 map, reminiscent of earlier Renaissance navigators' charts, identifies coastal ports and settlements in virtually every European nation and extends from Morocco to Greenland and the Arctic Sea north of Scandinavia. Useful for understanding the economic, military and social importance of the 18th century sea routes within Europe and beyond.

[M 25] A Compleat Map of the British Isles, or Great Britain and Ireland, with Their Respective Roads and Divisions. Originally issued in London in 1772 by Robert Sayer, this map shows counties, major towns and principal roads as they were in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales just prior to the American Revolution.

[X 1] Ireland/Britain (2 maps). A.K. Johnston's map of Ireland, reprinted from an 1844 original, shows counties, towns, roads and villages, as well as canals and railroads, as they were at the time of the Great Famine. Ideal for locating Irish villages. The set also includes our reprint of Laurie and Whittle's 1797 map The Invasions of England and Ireland that identifies 62 major battle sites in England and Wales and 14 in Ireland.

[X 9] Ireland Circa 1820 (2 sheets). Originally issued by John Pinkerton in the early 19th century, this large 2-sheet map shows many small place names not found on either [X 1] above or [X 6] below. Can be dissected and mounted to make a large 2' x 3" map.

[M 26] Black's Map of Yorkshire. Issued by A.& C. Black about 1875, John Bartholomew's map of this area identifies small towns, some manor houses and both major and minor roads. An attractive example of 19th century mapmaking.

[X 2] Scotland (4 maps). Depicting all of Scotland in impressive detail from the Lowlands to the Hebrides, the 3-map set was first published in England in 1834 by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. Printed on three large sheets, the maps represent Scotland in the early 19th century and include a table of place name changes. Towns, villages, shires and roads are clearly shown. [R 1] North Wales. Encompassing the shires of Anglesea, Flint, Caernarvon, Denbigh, Merioneth, and Montgomery, this finely detailed map was drawn by John Bartholomew and published by Adam and Charles Black in 1869. Showing rail, cross, and coach roads, as well as towns and villages, this important map will be useful to anyone researching in the above areas.
